ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI — September 1, 2026: Intense monsoon rainfall triggered widespread urban flooding across Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Tuesday, disrupting traffic, inundating low-lying areas and forcing authorities to launch emergency measures across the twin cities. Several major roads were affected by accumulated rainwater, while vehicles became stranded in flooded sections. The Islamabad Expressway and other important routes experienced severe traffic disruption as authorities worked to keep roads accessible. Nullah Lai water level rises One of the biggest concerns emerged in Rawalpindi as water levels in Nullah Lai climbed rapidly following heavy rainfall in its catchment areas.
